About Barsey Rhododendron Forest

Barsey Rhododendron Sanctuary in West Sikkim is named for the extraordinary rhododendron forests that explode into colour each spring, with over 25 species of rhododendron — from ground-hugging alpine shrubs to massive ancient trees — blooming simultaneously to create one of the most visually stunning natural events in the Himalaya. The sanctuary is prime red panda habitat, and these rust-red animals move through the bamboo and rhododendron forest in good numbers. The views of Kangchenjunga from the sanctuary are among the finest available from a forest floor.
