About Jana Falls
Jana Falls in the Kullu district is a hidden gem tucked above the village of Jana in the Uhl River valley, reached by a forest road that most travellers pass without noticing. The falls cascade through a narrow defile in the forest, dropping in a series of steps into a clear pool surrounded by ancient deodar cedars. The village of Jana itself is one of the Kullu valley's most authentic traditional settlements, with wooden-framed houses and apple orchards terracing the hillside.
The forest above Jana falls is dense, mossy, and largely undisturbed — a corridor of Himalayan temperate forest that connects to the wider protected landscape of the Great Himalayan National Park to the east. Himalayan birds including the Himalayan monal, koklass pheasant, and numerous warblers inhabit the oak and rhododendron understorey. A local shepherd's trail continues above the falls into high alpine meadows, making this an excellent base for less-visited trekking.
Morning to midday in June–August; light filters through the deodar canopy onto the cascade.
Include the ancient deodar trees in the frame — the scale contrast with the waterfall is dramatic.
