About Pakke Rainforest

Pakke Tiger Reserve in East Kameng district is one of northeast India's premier wildlife destinations, most famous for its exceptional population of hornbills — four species are found here, including the magnificent Great Hornbill and the Oriental Pied Hornbill. The Pakke River flows through the reserve, and its banks provide spectacular wildlife sightings at dawn. The reserve is also the site of a pioneering community-based nest protection programme that has dramatically increased hornbill breeding success through collaboration with local Nyishi tribespeople.
