About Sharavathi Valley Rainforest
The Sharavathi Valley Wildlife Sanctuary occupies the dramatic gorge through which the Sharavathi River plunges to create Jog Falls — at 253 metres, one of India's highest waterfalls and one of the most powerful in the world during peak monsoon. The sanctuary's moist evergreen and semi-evergreen forest is an important habitat for the lion-tailed macaque and shelters an exceptional density of endemic amphibians. The forest-fringed reservoir created by the Linganamakki Dam adds a vast aquatic dimension to an already biodiverse landscape.
