About Galathea Rainforest

Galathea National Park in southern Great Nicobar Island protects a pristine coastal rainforest where the Galathea River flows through ancient trees to the sea. The park's beaches are one of the world's most important nesting grounds for the Leatherback sea turtle — the largest living reptile — with hundreds of enormous females hauling out to nest on the dark sand beaches each season. The Galathea Bay area has been recognized as a critical marine biodiversity zone by multiple international conservation bodies.
