About Puliebadze Forest

Puliebadze Wildlife Sanctuary near Kohima in the Nagaland hills is one of the highest protected areas in the state, its temperate oak and rhododendron forest supporting a distinct highland fauna. The sanctuary is particularly important for birds, with a rich community of laughingthrushes, babblers, and the spectacular Blyth's tragopan among its residents. The surrounding hills have significant historical importance as the site of the Battle of Kohima in 1944, described as the turning point of the Second World War in the eastern theatre.
